Lichtenberg is eleventh district of Berlin with 10 localities: Friedrichsfelde, Karlshorst, Lichtenberg, Falkenberg, Malchow, Wartenberg, Neu-Hohenschönhausen, Alt-Hohenschönhausen, Fennpfuhl and Rummelsburg. This district contains Tierpark , the largest wildlife park of Europe and Stasi Museum(former headquarters of the Stasi, the East German intelligence service). Lichtenberg also has German-Russian Museum, the historical venue of German armed forces surrender in August 1945
Lichtenberg with its extended rail yards is the central transport facility of East Berlin, together with Berlin Ostbahnhof. Berlin-Lichtenberg railway station is present in Lichtenberg district and is located on the Eastern Railway,Wriezen Railway and Berlin Frankfurter Allee–Berlin-Rummelsburg railway lines. The station is also part of the S-Bahn and U-Bahn network
This district is well connected through Local Train services, S-Bahn, Bus and Tram networks. Some of the routes are: Bus (240, 256), Local Train (RB12, RB24, RB25, RB26, RB54), Tram(21,37), S-Bahn (S5, S7, S75) and U-Bahn (U5)
Off late, the population in the district is on the rise and has sustainable demand. Old village centres with nice old building quarters and sites with renovated old buildings are quite popular in Frankfurter Allee Nord, Victoria Stadt and Kaskelkiez. The historic village of Lichtenberg was founded about 1230 and its estates were acquired by the neighbouring City of Berlin in 1391. It has suffered severely during the Thirty Years' War and remained a small village at the Berlin gates until in the late 18th century. This became a residential area and a suburb of Berlin from the mid-19th century and part of Berlin in 1920 under the Greater Berlin Act. It borders with Friedrichshain, Prenzlauer Berg, Fennpfuhl, Alt-Hohenschönhausen, Rummelsburg, Friedrichsfelde and Marzahn and has a span of 7.22 square kilometres.Lichtenberg is a developing centre of Asian culture and also known as China town of Berlin
